六安地处安徽、河南、湖北三省交界处。南依长江，北靠淮河，东邻省会合肥60多公里。全市总面积1.8万平方公里，全市总人口709.6万人。全市现辖金安、裕安两区，寿县、舒城、霍山、金寨、霍邱五县，以及叶集改革发展试验区/六安经济技术开发区、六安市承接产业转移集中示范园区。

六安区位显要，交通便捷。六安是东进西出的桥头堡，是合肥经济圈、皖江城市带承接产业转移示范区和国家级交通枢纽城市。西安-南京铁路、上海-武汉-成都高速铁路、合肥-九江铁路、阜阳-六安铁路穿境而过，上海-西安、合肥-武汉、济南-广州、合肥-阜阳、合肥-安庆高速公路以及312、206和105国道纵横全市。即将竣工的新桥国际机场到六安仅40公里。全市水运通航里程1100多公里，水陆空交通十分方便。目前，六安到上海4个小时，到南京、武汉1个半小时，到合肥新桥国际机场半个小时左右。

Lu’an city lies on the border of Anhui, Hunan and Hubei provinces, and is located between the northern foot of Dabie Mountain and southern Huaihe River, with a total area of 18 thousand square km and a total population of more than 7 million. The land area ranks first, and the population ranks second in 17 cities of Anhui province. At present, there''re two districts, five counties and two provincial development zones under its jurisdiction. They''re Jin''an district, Yu''an district, Shouxian county, Shucheng county, Huoshan county, Jinzhai county, Huoqiu county, Lu''an Economic and technological development zone and Yeji reform pilot development zone.
Lu''an is extensive and abundant in natural resources with cultivable land area 440 thousand hectares, water area 67 thousand hectares, mountain area 730 thousand hectares. It is an important commodity grain production base in China, producing over 110 kinds of agricultural and sideline products. Many of its agriculture and forest products are at top of list in our province. The products are oil corps, stem-fiber crops, teas, cocoons, Chinese chestnuts, poultries, eiderdowns, aquatic products, woods, etc. It holds famous name of ”realm of white goose”, ”treasure house of tea and herbs”, ”capital of silks”, ”land of hydroelectric power”, ”paradise of tourist”.
Location is superior and traffic is convenience here. Xi’an-Nanjing, Shanghai-Wuhan-Chengdu express railroad, and Hefei-Jiujiang, Fuyang-Lu’an railway traverses the territory. Shanghai-Xi’an, Hefei-Wuhan, Ji’nan-Guangzhou, Hefei-Fuyang, Hefei-Anqing express high ways and national highways 312,206 and 105 meet here and go through the region. Xinqiao international airport being built is only 40 kilometers away. Lu’an city constructions are changing with each passing day. A fully functional, 60-square-kilometre urban frame with 600 thousand populations and elegant environment is taking shape. The prospects of the urban area having 150 square kilometers and 1.4 million populations are planned.
since the city was promoted to the status of a provincially-administered municipality in 2000, Lu’an city has witnessed a booming economy, and the city has taken on a completely new look.
